“East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet!” is the line most remembered from Rudyard Kipling’s Ballad of East and West. It is an apt metaphor for the syntactic dissonance between most enterprise software systems regardless of how well-crafted their APIs might be. The Application Programming Interfaces (API) of SugarCRM and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne are based on very different technologies. Most people forget how Rudyard Kipling’s Ballad of East and West ends: “But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth, When two strong men stand face to face, tho’ they come from the ends of the earth.” Machine boundaries between SugarCRM and JD Edwards are real and require intermediation. Magic xpi is about as good a solution to this requirement as one can find, East or West.
